Scribbles and Spotlights: A-Z Inventions

For my last Uni project we had to create a Black & White A-Z book in a group of 5. Our group chose 'Inventions' and each of us had to produce 5 spreads each plus a title page, end papers and our individual 'Z' page.

I had the letters D, I, N, S, X. We also had to draw our own letters and write a small paragraph to accompany each 'invention'.

This project was alot of fun, i tried lino cutting for the first time which was cool but i need some more practice. I also experimented with crosshatching and line to build up tone to my images.
I spent a good 14 hours on Indesign putting our group's book together but I'm please with the result.

I used graph paper and silhouettes of tools and machinery
to reflect the content of the book.

Dessert Canon

"Invented by Dr Gobblesbottom in 2001.
The Dessert Canon was a huge leap in the fast food industry. The Dessert
Canon delivers sugary puddings to overweight children everywhere faster
than any other delicatessen."

Incredible Illness Curing Injection

"Invented by Dr Edward Allen, 1988.
Doctor Allen invented the injection whilst trying to cure his son,
Walker, of tonsillitis. He ended up creating an injection that could rid
anyone of any illness.
He now lives in Tahiti with ten pet tigers in a pirate-themed water park."

Nanny Robot

"Invented by Dotty McPherson, an average housewife.
Mrs McPherson from Levinskiville invented the Nanny Robot to help her
cope with her twelve children whilst her husband is at work.
The 'NR200' can cook, clean, warm milk, change nappies and can
even knit a sweater or two!"

Super Space Submarines

"Professor Aquawash built over 100 Space Submarines several decades
ago under strict supervision by the government at that time.
They were equipped with high-tech navigation systems and state-of-the-art
weapons in case of any intergalactic attacks from unfamiliar planets."

X-Ray Fish

"Accidentally invented by Dr Marrowstein in 1960.
Whilst Dr Marrowstein was trying to develop a cream to reveal the
human body in x-ray form for ten minutes once applied,
he accidentally leaked some of the chemicals into the local water
supply and mutated all species of fish."
